Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar Smashes USD 1 Million in North America in Under Two Days: A Blockbuster Spy Thriller Success

Spy Thriller Dhurandhar Starring Ranveer Singh Earns Over $1 Million in Two Days Across North America

Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar has smashed past the USD 1 million mark in North America in under two days, underlining the film’s tremendous pull among diaspora audiences and consolidating Ranveer’s status as a global box office force. Powered by strong opening numbers in India and buzzing word of mouth overseas, the film has quickly emerged as one of the standout Hindi releases of 2025

Dhurandhar’s record-breaking North America start

In North America, Dhurandhar opened to an impressive USD 522,000 on Day 1, signaling strong interest from Indian and South Asian moviegoers across key markets like the US and Canada. By early evening on Day 2, it had already added around USD 653,000, pushing the cumulative total beyond the coveted USD 1 million milestone even before all Saturday shows were accounted for. With evening and late-night screenings still to be tallied, trade buzz suggested that Day 2 could go on to set one of the best single-day box office figures for an Indian film in North America in 2025.

Industry trackers view this performance as a signal that Dhurandhar has successfully converted pre-release hype into genuine box office traction rather than relying solely on advance bookings. The combination of a patriotic spy narrative, large-scale action and Ranveer Singh’s star power appears to have struck a chord with audiences who often drive premium ticket sales in IMAX and PLF formats across the North American circuit.

Domestic box office: Ranveer’s biggest opener

Back home in India, Dhurandhar has opened as the biggest first-day earner of Ranveer Singh’s career, giving the actor one of his strongest theatrical comebacks post-pandemic. The film is estimated to have collected about Rs 27 crore net on Day 1, followed by a stronger Day 2 in the Rs 31–33 crore range, taking the two-day India total close to Rs 60 crore. Early worldwide estimates indicate that the film has comfortably crossed Rs 40 crore on opening day globally, combining domestic and overseas markets, and is trending towards a robust weekend total.

Trade reports also position Dhurandhar among the top openers of 2025 for adult-rated or high-intensity action films, even if it still trails some of the year’s biggest tentpoles in raw numbers. However, as a gritty, long-runtime spy drama without a festival holiday advantage, its performance is being viewed as particularly impressive by analysts.

Star power, director’s brand and ensemble cast

Dhurandhar brings together Ranveer Singh with director Aditya Dhar, who earlier gained acclaim for Uri: The Surgical Strike, and that pairing has been a key marketing hook. Dhar’s reputation for staging large-scale, patriotic action set pieces has helped build trust among audiences who expect a blend of realism, technical polish and emotional heft from his projects. The film also benefits from the presence of heavyweight performers such as Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan and Arjun Rampal, along with Sara Arjun in a prominent female role, which broadens the appeal across age groups and cities.

Ranveer’s performance has been singled out in several reviews for being more restrained and controlled than some of his earlier, louder characters, which adds to the film’s credibility as a grounded spy saga. Akshaye Khanna’s intense turn as a key player in the terror network and the strong supporting cast have also been praised for adding layers to the narrative instead of merely functioning as cameos.

Plot, genre and audience connect

Dhurandhar is a Hindi-language spy action thriller set against the backdrop of real historical events like the IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. The story follows an Indian intelligence operation designed to infiltrate and dismantle a powerful terrorist network operating out of Karachi’s underworld, with a young, volatile recruit being turned into a deep-cover asset. The film mixes geopolitics, covert operations and gritty underworld drama, creating a dark, high-stakes atmosphere that resonates with audiences familiar with recent patriotic action hits.

Reviews describe the film as long but loaded, with a chapter-like narrative structure and a runtime of roughly three and a half hours that still manages to maintain tension through sharp direction, heavy background score and brutal action. The graphic violence, including scenes of intense combat and executions, positions Dhurandhar firmly in the adult action space, differentiating it from more family-oriented patriotic dramas while still strongly appealing to core urban and multiplex audiences.

Box office milestones and future prospects

The early USD 1 million-plus haul in North America, combined with strong India collections, has already made Dhurandhar one of the most closely watched Hindi releases of the quarter. Trade analysts are now eyeing the crucial Sunday and Monday figures to determine whether the film will settle into a stable, word-of-mouth-driven run or remain front-loaded around the opening weekend. With a second part reportedly planned for March 2026, scheduled to release alongside other big-ticket titles, the initial box office performance of part one will play a key role in shaping the franchise’s long-term brand value.

If the current trend holds and overseas markets continue to respond positively, Dhurandhar could emerge as a benchmark for Hindi spy thrillers in terms of global reach, especially in territories like North America where diaspora audiences are increasingly rewarding high-quality genre films with repeat viewings. For Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar, the storming start ensures that Dhurandhar will be remembered as a pivotal collaboration that reinforced their standing as bankable names in action-driven, patriotic cinema.
