One of the major new projects is the Kashi Ropeway, which will be India’s first city cable car system used for public transport. It will cover a distance of 3.75 kilometers and connect Varanasi Cantonment to Godowlia Chowk. Along the way, there will be three stops: Kashi Vidyapith (near Bharat Mata Mandir), Rath Yatra, and Girja Ghar (which is a technical station where passengers won’t get on or off).d spirit of the city alive.

The ropeway will have 153 cabins (called gondolas), and each one can carry 10 people. It will be able to carry up to 96,000 people every day. The full ride will take only 16 minutes, and it will run for 16 hours each day.The construction is being done using a plan called the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). In this model, 60% of the money is given during the building stage, and the remaining 40% is paid later, during the time it is being used and maintained.

The project is now being handled by the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) and the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML). Even though there were some small delays because of land disputes and high water levels in the Ganga, the officials are still hopeful that it will be finished and ready to use by July or August 2025.

Impact

This new cable car system is meant to reduce traffic jams, especially for pilgrims traveling from the railway station to important places like Godowlia, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and Dashashwamedh Ghat

Forest Park: Making the Opposite Side of the Ganga Greener

To support better transportation, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) is starting a forest park on the other side of the Ganga River. It will stretch from Rajghat to Samneghat and add more green space to the city.

This ₹8 crore project will include a Miyawaki forest, garden areas, flower beds, and trees grown for wood. It has two main goals: to improve air quality and to earn money in the future by growing and selling wood, flowers, fruits, and vegetables like dragon fruit and Thai guava.

Visitors will be able to enjoy walking paths, places to sit, areas for yoga and meditation, small ponds, play areas for children, and natural things like wooden swings.

Riverfront Designed for Tourists

A larger tourist-friendly area is being built along the riverbank. It will include beautiful walking paths, spots to enjoy the view, and places to eat—all connected to the city’s surroundings.

Major Project: Shri Kashi Vishwanath Corridor

This is a ₹355 crore project covering 5.5 acres. It makes it easier to reach the Kashi Vishwanath Temple from the Ganga River using escalators, ramps, and beautifully decorated entrances. The area also has cultural spots like art galleries, bookstores, and places to eat.

MV Ganga Vilas: The World's Longest River Cruise

Launched in January 2023, this is the longest river cruise in the world. It starts from Varanasi and travels about 3,200 km to end in Dibrugarh, Assam. The trip takes around 50 days and passes through many famous places in India and Bangladesh. The cruise has three decks and 18 suites, carrying up to 36 tourists, offering a luxurious travel experience along several Rivers and beautiful sites.

Tent City

This is a fancy place to stay made with tents. It is open from October to June. It gives visitors a nice and comfortable place to stay near the river.
